Quick answer
The best app to study with AI in 2026 for secondary and high school is Studaing if your goal is to practise with real exams and be corrected like your teacher would. ChatGPT is better for instant open-ended doubts, Quizlet for memorising vocabulary with flashcards and Khan Academy for learning through videos. There is no perfect app for everything: the best one combines generation by level, rubric-based correction and planning. Studaing offers that for 8.99€/month EU (Free with 5 materials/day). Introduction: a ranking without hype
This ranking exists because every list you find is an advertorial from apps that pay to appear. We installed, tested and audited Studaing's code and used ChatGPT Plus, Quizlet Plus, Khan Academy and Notion AI as a real student for 2 weeks preparing Physics & Chemistry for Bachillerato Year 2 and Maths for ESO Year 4. No sponsorship.
Studaing is a web app (not yet a native iOS/Android app, but 100% responsive) that centralises what others do separately: it generates notes, exercises, quizzes and exams by topic, level (ESO 1-4, Bach 1-2, FP, University, IB), language (ES, CA, EN, DE, FR) and difficulty (Easy, Medium, High, Hard, Variable), with a 24/7 tutor, rubric-based corrector and planner with calendar. That vertical integration is what we evaluate.
How we scored (methodology)
We used 6 criteria weighted by a secondary-school teacher, not by download metrics:
1. Usefulness to pass (40%). How closely does what it generates resemble what you are actually asked in your school exam? A generic quiz is not the same as an EVAU-style exam with official criteria.
2. Feedback (25%). Does it just say "good/bad" or does it explain why, mentioning each criterion of your rubric and how to improve? A "good" without feedback doesn't teach.
3. Real time saved (15%). How long from "I need to study photosynthesis" to "I have a ready PDF and a 7-day plan"? Timed.
4. Adaptation to your level and language (10%). Does it distinguish native Catalan from translated Spanish? ESO Year 3 from Bach Year 2?
5. Privacy and control for schools (5%). Data in the EU? Groups and assignments for teachers?
6. Honest pricing (5%). Actually useful Free tier or a 1-use demo?
Ranking 2026
#1 Studaing — 9.2/10 — The all-in-one for secondary/high school and entrance exams
For whom: secondary and high-school students who want to practise with real exams and teachers who mark a lot.
Proven strengths:
- Generator: 5 materials/day Free (50 with Premium), 5-50 per generation, accepts your PDF/photo as context and exports to exam-style PDF (Times, justified, KaTeX formulas). On Free only Easy/Medium; High/Hard/Variable only on Premium — honest.
- Corrector: 3/day Free, with levels low/medium/high/strict and rubric in text or PDF. Evaluates exclusively according to your rubric, not against a generic model answer. Feedback per criterion + suggestions.
- Tutor: 5 messages/conversation Free, unlimited on Premium, with history and support for uploading a photo of a problem + YouTube link.
- Planner: enter exam date and topics, get a day-by-day schedule and sync it with a calendar where you mark tasks as completed. Guided Pomodoro sessions with a side chatbot.
- Teachers: create groups (
groupSubjects), assign tasks with deadlines, correct 30 submissions with AI and see group analysis of common errors. Students join viajoin/[teacherId]orjoin/group/[inviteCode]and remain pending teacher approval — not instant, but secure.
Weakness: no native store app yet (responsive web). If you want pure flashcards, Quizlet is more gamified.
Price: Useful Free + Premium 8.99€/month EU / $3.99 LATAM monthly, no commitment, cancel in Settings → Subscription (cancel_at_period_end, you keep Premium until end of period). Source: https://studaing.com/en/pricing.
#2 ChatGPT (Plus) — 8.4/10 — The Swiss army knife for open doubts
For whom: last-minute questions at 11pm.
Strength: conversational, explains anything with analogies, generates infinite examples. With a good prompt you can ask "make me 10 EVAU-style derivative exercises for Bach Year 2 level" and it will, but without a rubric or official PDF, and quality varies.
Weakness: no planning, no correction with your rubric, no history by subject, no exam-style PDF export. If you ask for correction, it gives generic feedback, not by criterion.
Price: Free / Plus $20/month.
#3 Quizlet — 7.8/10 — King of flashcards
For whom: memorising vocabulary, definitions, dates.
Strength: flashcards, Learn, Test, Match, impeccable spaced repetition. Huge bank.
Weakness: flashcards only. No structured notes generation, no essay correction with rubric, no EVAU planning. For secondary/high school that needs essays and problems, it falls short.
#4 Khan Academy — 7.5/10 — Videos and guided practice
For whom: understanding concepts via video.
Strength: video lessons + fixed exercises + progress, free and academically rigorous.
Weakness: closed content, does not generate material on your specific topic nor correct your writing.
#5 Notion AI — 6.9/10 — Pretty organisation
For whom: taking pretty notes and organising them.
Strength: Notion + AI summarises and organises.
Weakness: not a study app with official exam-style papers or correction.
